Which are the long blue runs in Selva di Val Gardena

While Selva di Val Gardena is famous for its steep World Cup runs like the Saslong, it actually has several long, scenic blue (easy) runs. However, because the valley is steep, these runs are often found by taking a lift up to a high plateau and skiing back toward the town or a neighboring area.

Here are the best long blue runs in and around Selva:

1. The Falk (2 km)

  • Location: Plan de Gralba area (just above Selva).
  • Why it’s great: This is one of the most famous “easy” long runs in the immediate Selva vicinity. It starts at Piz Seteur and winds through a beautiful forest down to Plan de Gralba. It has gentle inclines and is manageable for almost all levels.
  • Access: Take the Piz Seteur gondola from Plan de Gralba.

2. The Bravo (2.2 km)

  • Location: Mont de Sëura / Monte Pana area.
  • Why it’s great: Technically located in Santa Cristina but easily accessible from Selva, this run offers incredible views of the Sassolungo. It’s wide, romantic, and maintains a steady, easy gradient throughout.
  • Access: Reached via the Monte Pana/Mont de Sëura lifts.

3. Piz Sella to Plan de Gralba

  • Location: Piz Sella area.
  • Why it’s great: From the top of the Piz Sella cable car, there are multiple wide, blue-graded sections that allow for a long, continuous descent back to the Plan de Gralba base. These slopes are some of the widest in the region, making them perfect for carving long turns.

4. Dantercepies Nursery & Progression Runs

  • Location: Directly at the foot of the Dantercepies gondola.
  • Details: While the main run from the top of Dantercepies is a Red (the legendary Cir), the bottom section near the village (around the Nives and Risaccia lifts) has several long-ish, gentle blue slopes used for teaching that are great for building confidence.

Pro-Tips for Blue Run Lovers in Selva

If you find the runs in Selva a bit too short or steep, there are two “Blue Paradises” nearby that are connected by the lift system:

  • Alta Badia (The “Blue Heaven”): From the top of the Dantercepies gondola in Selva, you can ski down a long red (the back side) into Colfosco. Once there, you are in Alta Badia, which is famous for having miles of long, flat, sunny blue runs that go on forever.
  • Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm): A short bus ride or lift connection via Ortisei takes you to the largest high-altitude alpine meadow in Europe. It is almost entirely composed of long, gentle blue runs with breathtaking 360-degree views.

WhichSelva di Val Gardena is arguably the “capital” of red runs in the Dolomites. While the black runs like the Saslong get all the fame, the long reds in this valley are widely considered some of the best intermediate cruising runs in Europe.
Here are the best long red runs accessible directly from Selva:
1. The “Cir” (Length: ~2.5 km)
Location: Dantercepies area.1

The Experience: This is a classic “Legendary 8” run. It starts at the top of the Dantercepies gondola (2,300m) and sweeps down towards Selva. It’s known for its wide, flowing sections and incredible views of the Sella Massif. It is usually perfectly groomed and offers a great “morning warm-up” if you catch the first lift.
Access: Take the Dantercepies gondola from the center of Selva.
2. Ciampinoi Red (Run No. 5 & 6)
Location: Ciampinoi Mountain.
The Experience: From the top of the Ciampinoi gondola, most people look at the Black runs, but the Red runs heading back toward Plan de Gralba (Run No. 5) are fantastic.2 They are long, fast, and generally much wider than the technical blacks. Run No. 6 often branches off and takes you back toward the base of the Ciampinoi lift in Selva.

Access: Take the Ciampinoi gondola from the village.3

3. Saslong B (Length: ~3.5 km)
Location: Ciampinoi to Santa Cristina.4

The Experience: While the “A” course is the famous World Cup black run, the Saslong B is the red alternative. It is significantly longer because it winds and loops through the forest. It’s a beautiful, varied run that eventually ends in Santa Cristina (where you can take the Gardena Ronda Express train back toward Selva).
Access: Top of the Ciampinoi gondola.
4. La Longia (Length: 10.5 km) — The “Must-Do”5
Location: Seceda to Ortisei.
The Experience: Though you have to travel slightly out of Selva to reach it, no trip to Val Gardena is complete without this. It is the longest run in the Dolomites. It starts at the Seceda ridge (offering the famous jagged peak views) and descends all the way to Ortisei.6 It features a frozen waterfall, a canyon section, and several mountain huts along the way.

Access: From Selva, take the subway (Gardena Ronda Express) in Santa Cristina to the Col Raiser lift, then the Seceda cable car.7
